This movie was bolder, bigger and more monumental than its prequel and sequel. Best Action Movies

The Terminator

IMDB: 8.0/10
Rotten Tomatoes: 100%

 Best Action Movies

Mad Max: Fury Road

IMDB: 8.1/10
Rotten Tomatoes: 97%

Plot: Riffing off the original Mad Max series, from the 1970s, Fury Road takes contemporary anxiety – scarce resources, climate change, the general apocalypse – and turns it into a dense, great thriller, with marvelous special effects and an idealistic bent.

In this post-apocalyptic film, petrol and water have become scarce commodities, and a group of people fleeing a cult leader has to team up to fight for their survival. With an ensemble cast led by Furiosa (Charlize Theron), the film’s take on the near dystopian future tends more towards action and thriller than sci-fi, but it trades on a very real fear – that of natural resources running out. The film’s dystopian aesthetic and feminist overtones form part of its unique appeal that’s bolstered by strong performances from a brilliant ensemble cast.

 Best Action Movies

Casino Royale

IMDB: 8.0/10
Rotten Tomatoes: 95%

Plot: The Bond franchise owners took the bold of rebooting the whole franchise and on top of that casting Daniel Craig as the suave agent which resulted in a huge backlash from the fans of the franchise(Boy! Were they wrong). Although Judi Dench was kept from the Brosnan era, this is a younger Bond embarking on his first mission by taking on Le Chiffre, a mob banker, from winning a high stakes poker game. In this movie, we see him earn his OO status.

 Best Action Movies

Fast Five

IMDB: 7.3/10
Rotten Tomatoes: 77%

Plot: This is the movie that gave the Fast&Furious a lifeline. The first trilogy failed to make a mark on the box office. The comeback fourth installment had re-grouped and rebooted but hadn’t got anybody particularly excited. But then came Fast Five: a holiday in the Rio sun that wasn’t over-reliant on series continuity. Fast Five reimagines the brand as a ridiculously high-octane Italian Job-style crime caper – climaxing with a vault robbery in which massive safes are dragged around busy streets by Dodge Chargers, causing maximum destruction. It went on to gross $626 million and became the highest-grossing movie of the franchise at that time.

 Best Action Movies

 John Wick

IMDB: 7.4/10
Rotten Tomatoes: 86%

Plot: The set-up (they killed his dog and now he’s mad as hell) verges on parody and the plot (gunman steadily works his way up the opposition’s organizational chain) as perfunctory as they come. But John Wick was an instant classic nonetheless, kicking off a series that continues to gain momentum. It’s partly the self-aware humor; partly the sheer cool and charisma of Keanu; and partly the brio of the action sequences: Raid-like in their single-minded, bloodthirsty focus. Everyone’s afraid of John Wick, and as he head-shots and executes to a truly mind-boggling body count, you can see why.

 Best Action Movies

IMDB: 7.2/10
Rotten Tomatoes: 94%

Plot: Keanu Reeves plays an officer who is on a bus with a bomb on it, which will explode and kill all its passengers if its speed drops below 50mph. Dennis Hopper who is the main antagonist is the aggrieved bad guy on the phone giving instructions, and Sandra Bullock is, reluctantly but pluckily, is driving the bus. Thrills! Spills! Near misses! Romance, even! the most impressive thing about the movie was that its bus sequence never outstayed its welcome. Speed went on to gross $350 million against its $30 million budget and also won two Academy awards for best sound mixing and sound editing.

 Best Action Movies

Enter the Dragon

IMDB: 7.7/10
Rotten Tomatoes: 94%

Plot: Bruce Lee plays a Shaolin martial artist working undercover for British Intelligence to bring down the villainous Shih Kien. Enter the Dragon swept every one of its feet and brought about a change in the western mainstream cinema as it introduced Kung-fu to the audience. The craze was such that even Roger Moore's James Bond decided to try its hand in it. It’s a testament to Lee’s sheer power and charisma. Sadly it was Bruce Lee's final film( not counting the ones cobbled together after his untimely death).
